It’s Time

It’s time. Doesn’t matter where you are in life, it’s time. Doesn’t matter who you are, what age, gender, nationality, sexual orientation, ethnicity…it’s time.

Time to start healing.

We are human beings. Super-funky, wildly-diverse, brilliantly-creative mammals, and we love new things. It shaped a good bit of our brain. it is totally understandable why most innovators, most entrepreneurs would do what they have done…created what they have created. I mean, we want to feel good, right? Who doesn’t? And watching what you have created infect the world with excitement can, I suppose through a certain lens, be exciting.

(Personally, I think it would freak me out.)

People generally do what they think is right, even if their behavior is abhorrent to others. It is often the case that those that act in ways that other people don’t understand or don’t agree with, think they are right in doing so. Those that created the situation we are in most likely thought they were doing something to help people, help society. In some ways, they did, I suppose.

I’m no different, I’m trying to do the same thing (but I am really hoping this actually does it).

The solution to all this (that I will propose to you) may in the end seem obvious, but in reality was synthesized from a number of very different facets of my reality. Business, neuroscience, behavioral economics, the enneagram, music, biology…I even threw Burning Man in there for good measure. The process felt like I was trying to put together an old puzzle, but the pieces of it were strewn all over the house I grew up in. I knew that once the puzzle was together I would remember it like it was yesterday, but when I looked at one or two pieces I just couldn’t see in my mind what it looks like. It was right there, but I couldn’t quite see it…until I found all the pieces.

Now, none of that matters. I see it, and soon you will too. What matters now is stemming the tide. Stopping the momentum and changing course. Seeing what the problem is and how simple it is, and seeing what the solution is as well (and how simple it is, too). We have to SEE it…like the astronauts who go into space and have the “overview effect,” seeing the Earth for what a precious, unique gift it truly is and connect to it in a completely new way. Like my longtime teacher and psychologist says…

To an increasingly large part of my day-to-day reality, I feel numb. Burned out. Mentally exhausted. Do you? Do you feel like things that used to give you pleasure don’t anymore? Can you even remember the last time getting a “like,” or having a package delivered that you ordered online felt like something special? I’m talking our day-to-day activity. Maybe you’ve told yourself it’s just because I’m getting older.

It isn’t because you are getting older.

It is happening to everyone. Doesn’t matter if you are rich, poor, a politician, celebrity or a farmer. What your gender, age, ethnicity, culture, location, sexual orientation, height, weight, or anything else is. It doesn’t matter…it is everywhere. We know it, we talk about it, but we don’t seem to understand it. Maybe we don’t believe it, or maybe we are just too addicted. Maybe we are blind.

Do you also feel a part of you getting a little more emotional? More attached? A little more fearful, more reactive? A little more on edge, teetering a bit? Are the parts of your life that you have linked to your well being…maybe its your your sports team, your family, could be your friends you meet online (but who may or may not know your real name), your stock portfolio, your church group, your Facebook chat group, maybe your political party…are these things feeling increasingly important these days too? Are you feeling increasingly hurt or angry? Do you feel attached to the things you believe, and maybe a bit fearful, of the direction your life is taking?

(No one is looking or listening. It’s ok to be honest with yourself.)

I have a theory I want to share with you. I’m going to break this theory down into parts, and will (attempt to) bring it together in a way I hope changes your life for the better, forever. I really appreciate you taking the time to indulge this…it has become my life’s work. If I can bring to one person awareness of what might be happening in their life and how to change course in a way that makes their world more fulfilling, then this has been worth it.

I want this to help you, to help us all.
